Advance notice of YEL income reviews

The government announced a reform of the YEL system in April 2026. These legislative changes are intended to take effect at the beginning of 2028. Until then, the reviews of YEL incomes will continue as defined by the current legislation.

Since the beginning of 2023, pension companies have reviewed entrepreneurs’ YEL incomes every three years. The review ensures that the YEL income is up to date and supports the entrepreneur’s livelihood during and after their entrepreneurial activity. This year, we will review those YEL incomes that have not been changed or reviewed in the past three years. A prerequisite for the review is that the YEL insurance has been valid for at least three years.

Elo will begin the reviews in June, and they will continue until the end of the year. If we notice during the review that the entrepreneur’s current YEL income does not correspond to the recommended level, we will contact the entrepreneur separately and propose a new YEL income. In May, we will also send a preliminary notification by email to those customers who, based on current information, will be affected by the review.

The entrepreneur can influence the amount of the new YEL income by responding to our proposal within two weeks in our online service. If desired, the entrepreneur can choose to accept an increase of only €4,000 if the proposed YEL income would otherwise increase by more than this.

It is always advisable to update the YEL income immediately when there are changes in the entrepreneurial activity that affect the work input. When the YEL income is at the correct level, the review will not cause any changes to it.
