Pension taxation

Pension counts as taxable income. For pension taxation, we need your pension tax card.

Once you have received your pension decision, order a new tax card for pension income as soon as possible from the tax authority’s MyTax service. If your pension starts on 1 November or 1 December, order a tax card for both the starting year and the following year.

If you have received a pension in previous years, we automatically receive your pension tax rate from the tax authority each year, and you do not need to do anything. If the amount of your pension changes, you must order a new tax card yourself.

Death of a pension recipient – instructions for family members

You do not need to report the death of a pension recipient to Elo if the person lived in Finland. However, if the person lived abroad, a family member must notify Elo.

The pension is paid until the end of the month of death, and the survivors’ pension secures the livelihood of the spouse and children.
