YEL in 2026

The YEL contribution will be the same for entrepreneurs of all ages next year.

In 2026, the YEL contribution is 24.4 % of the entrepreneur’s confirmed YEL income.

In 2026, the lower limit for YEL income is 9,423.09 € per year and the upper limit is 214,000.00 per year. An entrepreneur is eligible for unemployment benefits if their YEL income is at least 15,481.00 € per year.

YEL income reviews

Pension insurance companies review the entrepreneurs’ YEL income every three years. The review ensures that the YEL income is up to date and that the entrepreneur’s income security is secured both during and after their entrepreneurial activity.

There are several ways to contact us; most matters can be handled in our online service, also for security reasons. You can also call Elo during service hours. In the “Contact Us” section, simply select what your matter concerns, and you’ll receive a recommendation for the best way to handle it.

Frequently asked questions

Entrepreneurial work is generally insured in the country of work. An entrepreneur working remotely is primarily covered by the social security of the remote work country. For temporary work abroad, you can apply for an exception by applying for the A1 certificate for posted workers from the Finnish Centre for Pensions. This allows you to apply for the right to remain within Finland's social security and arrange employment pension insurance in Finland.

If you are on old-age pension according to the employment pension laws, YEL insurance is voluntary. Voluntary pension insurance must be applied for separately, as YEL insurance is automatically terminated the day before the pension is granted. Voluntary YEL insurance cannot be granted retroactively. Entrepreneurial activities on partial early old-age pension, disability pension, and partial disability pension are insured normally under YEL if the conditions for insurance are met.

Information about the amount of your future pension is available in Elo's personal customer's online service, where you can view your pension estimate and check your employment pension record.

You can add payment time to your invoices in Elo's online service. Through the online service, you can add payment time for up to 6 weeks from the original due date of the invoice. The payment time is subject to late payment interest. It is advisable to apply for payment time for an invoice that is due in advance, as we charge 5 euros for sending a YEL reminder invoice.

We will contact you if your income is reviewed and ask you to respond to the income proposal. If you’re using paperless service, you will receive a message by email; otherwise, we will send you a letter by post.

When you receive information from us about your income review, log into Elo's online service to view the income proposal. You have two weeks to respond to the proposal. After that, we will decide on your new income based on the available information. If you believe the proposed increase of 4,000 euros to your current income is justified, you can accept the proposal. If circumstances have changed, you can also apply for a different amount of income or maintain the current level. If the income you apply for significantly differs from the proposed amount, the service will ask you to provide more detailed justifications for your income.
