Supporting an employee in a work trial
The aim of the work trial is for the employee to return to work tasks that are suitable for their state of health and work ability.
It is worthwhile to spend time planning the work tasks and working methods during the work trial—that is, the rehabilitation plan—so that the trial is as goal‑oriented and successful as possible. The employee and the employer plan the work trial at the workplace together. It is also advisable to make use of the expertise of occupational health care in the planning.
It is important to agree on regular follow‑up with occupational health care during the work trial. The supervisor should also monitor how the work trial is progressing and maintain close communication with the employee participating in the trial.
When the work trial begins, inform other team members in accordance with what has been agreed together with the employee. A successful work trial requires support from both the work community and the employer.
Ensuring effectiveness
Monitor the progress of the workplace-based rehabilitation:
- follow how the workplace-based rehabilitation is progressing and hold the agreed follow‑up meetings
- participate in work ability negotiations
- contact occupational health care if you become concerned about the progress of the workplace-based rehabilitation
- contact our work ability specialist if you need advice or support
- inform us of any changes during rehabilitation, for example a sick leave longer than 2 weeks or if challenges arise during the workplace-based rehabilitation.
Actions at the end of the work trial
- Participate in the final negotiation of the work trial, where you agree on the next steps.
- Complete the feedback form on the work trial that you receive from us.
- After the work trial, monitor the employee’s work performance closely so that any challenges in work ability can be identified immediately.
