Early support

By identifying and responding early to work ability challenges, you can ensure smooth work performance, prevent disability and reduce the related costs. Early support includes recognising early signals, identifying workload factors, holding an early support discussion, supporting an employee with partial work ability, making work modifications, and the three return‑to‑work paths.

Employee’s disability pension

If an employee is partially or fully incapacitated for work for at least one year due to their state of health, they may apply for a disability pension. Depending on the degree and duration of the reduced work ability, the form of the pension is a disability pension, rehabilitation subsidy, partial disability pension or partial rehabilitation subsidy.

Rehabilitation Benefit and Disability Pension – What Is Paid and When?

Rehabilitation benefits

A rehabilitation benefit may be a rehabilitation allowance or a rehabilitation increment, depending on the employee’s situation. The rehabilitation increment is paid instead of the rehabilitation allowance if the employee is already receiving rehabilitation subsidy or partial rehabilitation subsidy. Rehabilitation benefits are paid to an employee who is participating in workplace-based rehabilitation or training. If the employee is in unpaid workplace-based rehabilitation, the rehabilitation benefit is paid to the employee. If the employee is in paid workplace-based rehabilitation, the rehabilitation benefit is paid to the employer for the part corresponding to the wages.

Rehabilitation benefits do not create any costs for your company.

Disability pensions

A disability pension may be granted for a fixed term or on a permanent basis. A disability pension may be granted as a partial or full pension.

Granted permanently:

  • disability pension – full disability pension

Granted for a fixed term:

  • rehabilitation subdsidy – full disability pension
  • partial rehabilitation subsidy – 50 % disability pension

A granted disability pension, rehabilitation subsidy, partial disability pension or partial rehabilitation subsidy may result in direct costs for the company if the company is in the earnings-related pension contribution category model. As an Elo corporate customer, you can view your company’s contribution category and its development in Elo’s Corporate Customer Online Service.
