Rehabilitation Allowance and Rehabilitation Increment
During vocational rehabilitation, you will receive a rehabilitation benefit from us, which is either a rehabilitation allowance or, if you are already receiving rehabilitation support, a rehabilitation increment. The rehabilitation benefit is paid when your active vocational rehabilitation, such as a work trial or studies, begins.

Income During Rehabilitation
The purpose of the rehabilitation benefit is to secure your income during Elo’s vocational rehabilitation. During vocational rehabilitation, you will receive a rehabilitation allowance. If you are already receiving rehabilitation subsidy, you will receive a rehabilitation increment. The rehabilitation allowance is equal to the sum of rehabilitation subsidy and the rehabilitation increment. In addition, we pay compensation for costs related to vocational rehabilitation.
After your rehabilitation plan is approved, we will issue a separate decision on the rehabilitation benefit. The right to the rehabilitation benefit begins when your studies, work trial, or work coaching starts. The first rehabilitation benefit is paid to your account about a week after you have received the decision on the benefit.
Rehabilitation Allowance
The amount of the rehabilitation allowance is individual. It is calculated in the same way as a disability pension, but a 33% increase is added. It is based on your accrued earnings-related pension. The amount also includes the so-called projected pension. You can estimate the amount of your rehabilitation allowance in our Online Service using Elo’s pension calculator.

Rehabilitation Support and Rehabilitation Increment
If you are already receiving rehabilitation subsidy, a rehabilitation increment is added. Rehabilitation subsidy is a fixed-term disability pension, which requires that you are disabled but your work ability can be restored through treatment or rehabilitation.
The rehabilitation increment is paid in addition to rehabilitation subsidy. The amount of the increment is 33% of the amount of rehabilitation subsidy. The increment is paid for full months of rehabilitation.
Rehabilitation Assistance
Rehabilitation assistance is a discretionary benefit. The right to rehabilitation assistance exists only when your rehabilitation plan has been approved and you cannot receive salary or other benefits, such as sickness allowance or unemployment allowance, during the waiting period before your rehabilitation starts. Rehabilitation assistance is usually granted for a maximum of 3 months. The amount of rehabilitation assistance is equal to the disability pension.
Index Adjustments for Rehabilitation Benefits
The amount of rehabilitation allowance, rehabilitation subsidy, rehabilitation increment, and rehabilitation assistance in payment is automatically adjusted by the earnings-related pension index at the beginning of each January.
