Applying for disability pension
Complete the disability pension or rehabilitation subsidy application in our online service 2–3 months before the sickness allowance ends.
Attach an up-to-date Medical Statement B, issued within the last 6 months. If we do not receive the statement within two weeks of receiving your application, we will issue a decision not to investigate. Please note that we cannot process your case based on the Medical Statement B alone – we also need the application.
You may also submit other medical reports. All medical documents must show your name and personal identity code. Please do not send screenshots from MyKanta, as they do not include the identity code. Elo does not have access to MyKanta.
Before applying for a pension, you can calculate an estimate of your pension amount in our online service
You can apply for the national pension from Kela on the same application if your earnings-related pension is small. Alongside a full disability pension, you may receive a national pension if your pension amount does not exceed EUR 1,450–1,600 per month.
When processing your pension application, we will examine whether vocational rehabilitation could help in your situation. Our primary aim is to support your return to work through vocational rehabilitation.
How your application is processed

1. We process your application
- The average processing time for an application is about 6–8 weeks. You can track the progress of your application in our online service. Processing may take longer than average if, for example, we need additional information. We will contact you if further details are required. If necessary, you can request faster processing via the chat in our online service.
- We will forward your application to Kela if needed. If new reports become available during the processing of your application, we will send them to Kela on your behalf.

2. We assess your work ability
- We assess your work ability based on the information you provide in your application, the B medical certificate you submit, and any other health-related reports. If necessary, we will request a description of your job duties and work performance from your most recent employer.
- Elo’s work ability specialist and consulting physician will jointly evaluate your entitlement to a disability pension. If needed, other Elo specialists, such as a legal expert, may also participate in the assessment. During the processing of your application, we will also assess whether your work ability could be improved through vocational rehabilitation. Vocational rehabilitation is always the primary option compared to disability pension.
- If you have also applied for disability pension from Kela, we will make the assessment of your entitlement together with Kela. We aim to reach the same decision as Kela.

3. Review your decision
- You will receive a message when the decision is ready. The decision can be viewed in our online service. Take your time to review the decision and its attachments carefully.
- After a positive decision, please submit your tax card for pension to Elo.
- If you received a negative decision, review your options.
